|
About: Wente Vineyards is the oldest, continuously operated family-owned winery in the United States. It was started in 1883 by C.H. Wente, a first-generation immigrant from Germany, after he purchased 48 acres of prime Livermore Valley land. Today the sustainably grown vineyards include more than 2,000 acres in the valley, with another 800 acres in Arroyo Seco, Monterey, and is run by fourth and fifth generation members of the Wente Family. The winemakers say they blend traditional and innovative winemaking practices to make their outstanding wines. Wente includes two tasting rooms, a restaurant, a championship golf course designed by Greg Norman, and a large concert venue. It is also available for weddings and special events.
Wines: Zinfandel, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, among others, including many small lot wines.
Estate Tasting Room: Open daily 11 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Tours are offered daily at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
The newly renovated room is located at the historic Wente Estate Winery. There is a lush lawn with trees, flowers, and water features for picnicking, or enjoying a bottle of wine on the patio. Groups of 10 or more should make an appointment for a special tasting. Shared with Tamás Estates (see listing above).
Vineyard Tasting Room: Open daily 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Public Cave Tour and Tastings are offered at 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays; $20 per person.
The Vineyard Room is located next to the restaurant, golf course, and event center. |
