The inspiration for Occasio Winery comes from a Latin phrase, “occasio aegre offertur, facile amittitur,” or “the right moment comes along rarely and is easily lost.” Winemaker John Kinney dove into his new winery at just such a moment with the 2007 grape harvest. Timing is key in the winemaking process, and Kinney takes advantage of excellent timing, as well as working with growers who share his dedication to quality.
Wines: Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Zinfandel, Merlot, among others.
Tasting Room: Summer hours are Friday-Sunday, 12 to 5 p.m., or by appointment. Check the website or call during other seasons.
Guests enjoy tasting wine in the lovely tasting room with bistro tables, or under the large shade tree outside, and can even tour the winery. There is a Library Room for more formal tastings of up to eight people. The winery also features “Slow Food” products created by local artisans. |
