Murrieta’s Well in Livermore
Murrieta’s Well is located on an historic piece of Livermore Valley land where wine grapes have been growing since the 19th Century. It’s named for the infamous Gold Rush outlaw Joaquin Murrieta, who camped by the artesian well found on the property. In 1883, it was planted with cuttings from renowned French vineyards. Today the 92-acre estate is operated by local native Philip Wente (grandson to winemaker Ernest Wente), and winemaker Sergio Traverso. The two have spent more than 20 years making memorable estate blends, and other prized Bordeaux style wines. The winery is available for weddings and special events.

Wines: The winery is known for its blends; The Whip is its blend of white wines, and The Spur is a blend of red wines. Small lot wines are also available: Meritage, Semillon/Chardonnay, Semillon, Tempranillo, Muscat Canelli, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, among others.

Tasting Room: Open daily May-October, 11 a.m.-4:30 p.m.; November-April it’s open Wednesday-Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
